Getting into graphic design schools/careers?
Okay, so I recently thought about getting into graphic design.I have graduated high school, and I am going to start community college in the fall. But, I don't know what I want to do and that's why I am going to community college first.I have looked into graphic design a little, but all the bigger universities that offer it require a portfolio.I don't have any kind of artwork saved up to eventually send into one of these schools. What do I do? That may seem like a stupid question, but I am seriously confused. The community college I am going to does offer any graphic design classes for credit, so yeah...there's another problem. Do you have to take any type of pre reqs to get into a graphic design program at a bigger university? Because I can do that while at community college perhaps....Someone just give me some advice please I am really interested in getting into graphic design more and going to school for it.
What's a good laptop screen-size for a graphic design student?
I'm going into graphic design, and I need a laptop... I'm trying to design the best screen size. I'm looking into the Macbook Pro, which is obviously super expensive, but it'd be stupid to get the cheaper 13 inch if it's too small for what I want to do with it.
Is graphic design a great career?
I'm planning on attending SCAD Savannah College of Art and Design in about two years to go for a M.F.A I was wondering if having a career in Graphic Design would be beneficial? I am now 16 years old and I've been designing since the age of 12. I'm familiar with the whole Adobe Creative Suite package. My plans basically are to go to college and get my M.F.A. and major in Graphic Design and I'm not sure what I'll minor in or if I'll have two majors, but I plan on having my own Graphic Design and Art direction company and I'll design promotional advertisements, album covers, posters, and the like for Music artist and several different aspects in the entertainment industry.Do you think that it'll all work? What advice would you have to give me? Thanks so much
Which college/ university has the best graphic design/ communication program? canada canadian?
I'm looking to transfer into a school with a good graphic design program. I've been researching schools and so far these are my top picks and what i've read Concordia has a good arts department montreal OCAD a big name York Sheridan also big, but less than desirable...neighborhood?the location and atmosphere of the college campus will be a definite factor also. and although i'd like to, visiting before hand is not an option which i realize may not be the best move.So if anyone could tell me anything about these schools in regards to their design program, campus life, or student satisfaction that would be sooo great if there are any other schools that i should consider i'd appreciate it
I'm interested in Graphic Design, but haven't taken any art classes yet in high school?
I've always been creative and I enjoyed art class in the past, but I've chosen other electives in high school and haven't considered any art classes. Recently, I realized I'm very interested in graphic design but I only have my senior year left to take art related classes. Will this hurt me in the college selection process? Will I be " behind" others who have experience with art? Please offer anything you know, it would really help.
Should I get a career change from Graphic Design to Pastry Chef?
I am a graphic designer who has been working in the field for over 7 years. What I have realized about graphic design is that no matter how long you work you will never make more than what I make right now Mid 30's unless you can't find a job with a cool place like Digital Kitchen. I have also discovered that I have a passion for baking and the lack of jobs in my field as well as the low pay has gotten me into thinking about pursuing baking as a career. I also work for someone at the moment who doesn't appreciate hard work and doesn't want to pay for it The company I work for made 9 million dollars last year and I have asked for an 8% percent raise from my current salary 29K a year plus a sales bonus of 3000 but they refuse to give me one. What should I do? should I send it all to hell and go for baking? Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Mac Book Pro 15' or Dell Inspiron for student going into college for Graphic Design?
I'm going to Pratt this fall as a freshman for graphic design and I need to know which computer would be best in the long run for me. I really cannot afford even the refurbished mac with the student discounts, yet from what I hear, graphic design is much, much, better on a mac. So what would be better, a Dell for half the price, or the Mac? I need the computer that will work best for me throughout college, and which is also better with graphics and design programs.
